I'm so grateful for stumbling upon your newsletter as this is something I'm struggling with since the pandemic started. I'm so burnt out creatively and mentally that I have lost just about all interest and passion for my work as a photographer. It's nice to see you've found balance when sharing on social media now. I like your take of sharing more behind the scene content and caring less about how the feed apears. I'm slowly tidying up my own insta feed but I'm quite tempted to delete the app all together. I look forward to reading more of your posts here. Thank you for sharing ☺️
An interesting, nuanced post. Being based in Zambia, the internet looms more significantly than it did when I lived in the UK. I look forward to the rest of this series.
Last few months I spent a lot of time thinking about how I want to use social media in the context of my photography. I have decided to focus my time on my own craft, especially when it comes to composition and my work in darkroom printing. Much like you, I felt more fulfilled when I decided to prioritize offline creative work with my hands. I have also decided to prioritize face-to-face interactions, encouraging myself to get out more, checking out more exhibitions, organizing/being part of community events, etc. I think we can assign social media more of a logistical role to set up more meaningful encounters.
I love that you share more of your creative process, not only finished work. It is very inspiring.
Your newsletter is actually the only one I subscribe to and enjoy reading. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and experience. Warm wishes from Berlin.
actually getting out and meeting people, organizing community events and meeting people in real life struck a big chord for me, especially after all the locked in/online only activities over the last couple of years. I think people are craving for more meaningful connections and I'm going to explore this further in the coming issues.
Thanks so much for the feedback! And I recently learned that we've got common friends in Berlin! Really hope to meet you someday in person!
